Our third major stop in Thailand was in Phetchaburi. This was a bit of an unusual pick, but I wanted my kids and me to experience a bit of the rural countryside outside of Bangkok. I was well worth the risk.

Our next stop was Amphawa and its beautiful floating market. Most tourists visit Damnoen Saduak floating market but Amphawa is much better, and fewer tourists, This town was a refreshing change from the air and noise pollution of Bangkok.

This summer I had a magical vacation with my children in Thailand. We visited four major cities and Airbnb’ed the whole trip. Our first seven days were in Bangkok. Then three nights in Amphawa, three in Phetchaburi, and our final leg were seven nights in Chiang Mai.
I managed to get air-conditioned accommodations at all our locations. This is definitely a requirement if you ever travel to Thailand in the summer. We journeyed throughout the country by bus, train, and a few Tuk Tuks for fun. Here are the first ten photos from Bangkok for your viewing pleasure.

• We always want our children to be better than us. Some may interpret that to mean success through wealth, fame, or power. But it’s beyond that. I want my boys to be stronger than me. Emotionally, physically, and socially. I want them to survive in this world beyond what I could possibly achieve. I want them to make an impact on their world better than what I achieved. I want to give my boys what my father didn’t – to be their mentor.
• Even with emotional clarity, I always felt limited in my ability to reach the top tiers of success. I revered those that had mentors throughout their lives. I observed how a select few attributed their achievements to a mentor. I never had someone that would sit with me and assess my life and provide continual and persistent guidance. The only times I would be approached directly by a family member was when I was in crisis, or when I had done something horribly wrong. Those times I had been lectured and disciplined. The closest I had to a mentor in those years was my coach, Morris Vaillancourt*, and my girlfriend’s father, Conrad Brown. I respected them immensely – always listening to their words of wisdom, and lessons from life. They were mentors by example and in how they viewed life.
* Morris Vaillancourt, was the coach of the Burlington YMCA Swim Club. He is also a National Coach, Level I and II Clinic Conductor. In 1973 Morris was the Canada Games Coach and also held the position of Chairman of the Ontario Swimming Coaches Association. He has trained over 100 Provincial and National record holders.

• Maybe it’s because I’m an engineer at heart. Throughout my whole life I found beauty in numbers. When studying physics in university I got to a point in advanced mathematics where the line between science and art began to blur. I wanted to create this post to demonstrate how it is possible to find incredible symmetry in numbers, that are directly connected to those who we love the most.
• Children are the light of our lives. They give meaning to our existence. There is nothing more important to me than Matias & Lucas. My boys are special, but I didn’t realize how extra special they were until I wrote their birth dates for the first time. Here is a short video to Illustrate those two awesome days in my life.
