What Is Your Biggest Session Challenge?
Asking a model to give her soul and essence to me for a brief photoshoot is a tall order. I want them to trust me – to find their confidence – and to relax. Essentially, I’m asking them to open their heart to me – a stranger. Some models know exactly what I mean because they’ve heard similar requests from past photographers. Others don’t understand what I’m asking. From their vantage point, they don’t see the dilemma, “I’m here. I don’t understand what more you want from me.”
Thus begins my challenge: The model is present physically, fulfilling one-quarter of a good photoshoot. The second quarter is in me doing a good job with staging, atmosphere, lighting, composition, creativity, etc. But the most important half is emotion. A good photographer needs to ‘feel’ the model.
“Eyes are the Gateway to the Soul. The lens is the Gateway to the Eyes.”
Making a connection requires empathy on both sides. When a photographer has empathy, they’re able to ‘connect’ with the model on a higher level. If I succeed in pulling the model’s emotions into the camera, then I have a brief opportunity to capture it. Without empathy, this emotional layer can’t be harnessed. Likewise, if the model doesn’t have empathy, she lacks the intuition to share in a genuine connection. They stay within the confines of their protective walls and rely on their physical presence to be sufficient.
I firmly believe that the best fine arts photographers in the world succeed in capturing the essence of their models through an authentic connection, in the same way as great artists evoke emotion from their creations. If my photos don’t evoke emotion, they’re sent to the trash.
A friend recently asked me, “Do you fall in love with your models?” My first reaction was to laugh – not at the underlying dig that was implied, but because I immediately knew my answer:
“I fall in love with the art that my models represent.
My eternal challenge is to capture their essence.
Through this relentless pursuit, I’m able to take great pictures of them.”

Would you like to update your professional portfolio, capture a moment in time, or maybe just experience a fine arts photoshoot?
If you’re interested, then send an email to: gabriel (at) dusil (dot) com and a selection of photos (or a portfolio CV). If your application is accepted, you’ll receive a two-hour photoshoot and professionally edited high-quality photos. No modeling experience is necessary. Your photos don’t have to be professionally produced but please don’t send images older than six months or strongly edited. Our preferred age for female models is between 18 to 32 years old (although, exceptions are made to the upper limit based on the model’s CV. Only adult females are photographed). There are no height requirements, but the model should be in good fitness shape.
Models can use their images for private or non-commercial use. In return, I ask for unrestricted copyright of the photos taken. Signing a model agreement prior to the photoshoot. Upon your request, your photos can be published with or without your name. Your photos may be displayed on my blog, website social media, or showcased in exhibitions or art galleries.
This photo shoot is valued at over €900, consisting of a two-hour photoshoot and receiving twenty of the best images in full resolution delivered (with professional image retouching, color correction, and composition fixes). Posing advice and guidance are provided upon request.
- Retouching of all remaining vetted final-cut images in full resolution.
- Professional editing (e.g. black & white, enhancements, artistic effects).
- Travel & Expenses are not included (if the photo shoot is in Prague, Czech Republic, then no travel & expense are incurred).
Your personal data will be treated with confidentiality in accordance with European GDPR and Privacy Regulations. If your application is not accepted, then your contact details and photos will be deleted.

He is a blockchain entrepreneur, with strengths in international business strategy.
Gabriel has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from McMaster University in Canada and expert knowledge in crypto incubation, cloud computing, IT security, and digital video technology. Gabriel also runs his own company, Euro Tech Startups s.r.o.
Hobbies include photography, video production, motion graphics, digital graphics, photo restoration, carpentry, martial arts, traveling, blogging, and trying to be better than yesterday.
